The Inaugural UK Malaysian Film Festival

As part of BMS‘s 40th Anniversary celebrations we are pleased to launch the first ever UK Malaysian Film Festival in London to show case the made in Malaysia films we have specially selected for you to watch and enjoy. Promoting cultural links between Malaysia and the U.K. has been one of the key pillars of the work of BMS over the years. 

"We hope that this inaugural Film Festival will result in greater collaboration between our two countries and offer exciting opportunities for all who are interested developing the film industry further." - Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair of the British Malaysian Society.

The Opening Session on 23 September has now taken place and tickets are no longer available for the Opening Event.

The Inaugural UK Malaysian Film Festival begins at the London Film School on 23 September.


The opening session will include a film screening of "Spilt Gravy on Rice" and starts at 5:30pm on 23 September at the London Film School. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on this film and on U.K.-Malaysian film collaboration.

Synopsis
The story revolves around the central character of Bapak, an ageing, polygamous, British-educated, Malay, Muslim, retired journalist, patriarch, who realises he doesn't have much time left on Earth and so invites his five children to have dinner with him to discuss some unresolved family matters with them, including who will inherit his house, their childhood home, an old decaying mansion, set in an acre of lush garden in the centre of the rapidly developing capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Official opening of the Film Festival by HE Dato’ Zakri Jaffar, High Commissioner of Malaysia to UK.

Introduction to the opening film by it’s Producer, Zarul Albakri

6:20pm
   Screening of film “Spilt Gravy on Rice

8:15pm   Panel discussion

8:55pm   Vote of thanks and Closing Remarks.

9:00pm   End of event.
