President’s 2024 Reception

to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of promoting UK-Malaysia relations

The British Malaysian Society invites all members and friends to join with us to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Society at our President's 2024  Reception.

Please see the invitation below from Sir Mark Moody-Stuart KCMG, President & Ms Mei Sim Lai OBE DL, Chair of the Society.

The Reception will be held at the Royal Over- Seas League. Founded in 1910 by Sir Evelyn Wrench to create an international London home for international collaboration, culture and conversation, the Royal Over- Seas League champions international friendship and understanding within the Commonwealth and beyond.

The Reception will include a Keynote Address by Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint
Chairman of Asia Advisory Board
Former Group Chairman of HSBC
Former Minister of State for Trade & Investment.

There will be short congratulatory speeches/ messages from VIPs invited to the event including HE Ailsa Terry CMG, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Dato ‘ Zakri Jaafar, Malaysian High Commissioner to the U.K. , Amarjit S Ghai President of Malaysian British Society, Dato ‘ Anthony Cooper, former Chairman of The British Malaysian Society, Jason Brooke, President of the Sarawak Association,
Christopher Scott, Group Managing Director of Claridon Group Ltd, the Sponsor of the Reception.

Musical entertainment has also been arranged for the evening featuring Malaysian musicians and others.

Note: this event is preceded by the BMS AGM: 4:30pm - 6:00pm in the Wrench Room at the Royal Over-Seas League. Attendance at the AGM is free-of-charge, but if you wish to attend the AGM, please reserve your place on the AGM Event page seperately. Only paid-up members of BMS may attend the AGM.

Proposed Programme

4.30pm - 6pm ( AGM for BMS members in the Wrench Room).

6.30pm - arrival of attendees and registration. Start of President's drinks reception with canapés.

7.15pm - Welcome by Chair, Mei Sim Lai OBE DL.

7.20pm - Opening remarks by President, Sir Mark Moody Stuart KCMG, who will introduce our Keynote speaker Lord Green.

7.30pm The President to thank Lord Green and then invite VIPs and others to make their short congratulation speeches 

7.45pm The Chairman to thank speakers and outline coming 40th Anniversary events in 2024. Continuation of Drinks Reception with canapés.

8.45pm. End of event
